The HighTech Fettling Cell GREIF for “heavy stress” applications

The compact Fettling Cell of highest technical feature is an enclosed unit, based on the hanging arrangement of the robot in a solid steel framework. The framework requires an area of ca. 2.5 x 2.5 meters.

Castings enter via a feeding system, which features replaceable fixtures individually adapted to the casting to be fettled. The robot is equipped with gripper for picking up the casting at the feeding station and holding it while it is being moved against the cutting and grinding machines which are stationary mounted in the robot-cell.

The robotcell is capable of performing the fettling process with low cycle times because high speed grinding spindles are usedfor cutting and grinding operations. They work with cutting speeds of up to 100 m/sec.

Integrated conveyor systems carry castings, chips, cut-offs etc. out of the cell.

The fettling cell is enclosed in solid steel walls, protecting the surroundings against noise, dust and the event that the grinding wheel shatters. The system is secured mechanically and electrically according to safety regulations.
